Number of fraudulent transactions in Russia decreased in the first month of the new year

But experts still urge Russians to remain vigilant

A decrease in the number of fraudulent transactions, such as telephone fraud and phishing, is observed in Russia. Journalists have drawn attention to this.

In January 2025, the number of incidents with fraudsters decreased by 4.6% compared to the same period last year. The rate of annual growth of fraud also decreased from 38.2% in 2023 to 6.8% in 2024.

These changes became possible thanks to the effective interaction between the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the Central Bank. Security forces and representatives of the regulator were able to improve information exchange and promptly respond to fraudulent schemes.

The amount of arrested funds in the accounts of fraudsters increased by 13.5%, and the number of criminal cases sent to court increased by 2.1%.

Despite the positive trends, experts warn that one month is not enough to assess long-term changes. The fact is that the organizers of fraudulent schemes still remain out of reach of law enforcement agencies.
