New road signs have appeared in Russia. Rosstandart's database has published a package of amendments to GOST R 52289, which establishes mandatory rules for the use of markings and road signs.
Among the innovations is a parking sign combined with a visualization of how to park a car, a recommended speed limit sign combined with a "speed bump", and a "Deaf" sign.
The changes affected the "Stop" sign, which can be depicted not only as a horizontal inscription, but also as a vertical one. A sign indicating the validity period of various road signs may contain information about months, and not just specific daily hours.
Another innovation concerns road signs. Some of the information on them can now be covered with red magnetic tape, whereas currently this is done with a dark cover.
The changes will take effect on January 1, 2026. At the same time, regional authorities can apply the new GOST ahead of schedule right now.
