The Central Research Institute for Precision Machine Engineering (TsNIITOCHMASH JSC, part of the Kalashnikov concern) held an exhibition of weapons samples in honor of Defender of the Fatherland Day.
Visitors saw live samples of famous rifles, machine guns, and assault rifles, some of which were developed by TsNIITOCHMASH designers.
The special assault rifle (AS) Val and the special sniper rifle (VSS) Vintorez, designed to engage targets in conditions requiring silent and flameless firing, attracted a lot of attention.
The famous designer of the institute, Petr Serdyukov, worked on these products. His ideas, incorporated in the VSS Vintorez, made it possible to create the best silent sniper complex in the world, which has not been surpassed abroad even today.
AS Val is equipped with a magazine for 10 and 20 rounds of 9x39 mm caliber. The assault rifle is built on a gas-operated automatic system with a long stroke of the gas piston, which is located above the barrel and rigidly connected to the bolt carrier. The trigger mechanism is of the striker type.
VSS Vintorez also has a box magazine with a capacity of 10 and 20 rounds. The rifle uses 9x39 mm caliber cartridges, such as the SP-5 sniper and SP-6 armor-piercing cartridges. The rifle received a silencer integrated into the design and two firing modes - automatic and single. Sighting devices include an open mechanical sight and a side bracket for mounting optical and night sights.
