The universal ice-class patrol ship "Ivan Papanin" returned to St. Petersburg after another stage of sea trials. The Project 23550 vessel was built at the Admiralty Shipyards.
Acting General Director of the shipyard Andrey Bystrov stated earlier that "Ivan Papanin" will be transferred to the Northern Fleet in the summer of 2025. Before that, the vessel needs to undergo ice trials in the area of the Franz Josef Land archipelago in the Arctic Ocean.

Vessels of this project are capable of performing the tasks of an icebreaker, a tug, a fireboat, and a warship. The patrol ship will carry Kalibr and Uran missiles, AK-630M, a Kord machine gun, and Igla or Verba MANPADS. It will be able to accommodate 1 Ka-27 or Ka-226 helicopter, as well as drones.
Characteristics of Project 23550 ships:
- Full displacement of the ship - 8500 tons.
- Greatest length - 114.5 meters.
- Greatest width - 19.5 meters.
- Greatest draft - 6.5 meters.
