The Russian government is preparing a bill that provides for the creation of a register of marketplaces. It will include platforms with an audience of over 100 thousand users per day.
The changes will be made to the draft law "On the platform economy." The register will only include marketplaces that meet the established criteria. One of them will be a daily audience of 100 thousand users per day.
According to a market source, the register will not include information resources that distribute software licenses, as well as platforms that sell goods and services of their own brands. Also, the list will not include sites without a commercial focus, social networks and messengers.
The government explains that the purpose of this bill is to protect the interests of citizens. It can also ensure the long-term and sustainable development of the platform economy. Experts, however, express some concern that the bill may negatively affect the opportunities of sellers and requires further refinement to achieve a balance of interests of all market participants.
