На Солнце в День святого Валентина произошли две вспышки предпоследнего класса мощности: магнитные бури на подходе

Both flares are of class M1.2

The Institute of Applied Geophysics reported two solar flares of the penultimate class M, registered on February 14.

The first M1.2 flare occurred at 05:28 Moscow time in the X-ray range and lasted 30 minutes. The second flare of the same power was recorded at 13:06 Moscow time in the group of sunspots 3990, its duration was 31 minutes.

Solar flares are powerful bursts of energy, accompanied by X-ray and ultraviolet radiation. Depending on the power of X-ray radiation, flares are divided into five classes: A, B, C, M and X.

They can lead to the release of coronal mass, which provokes magnetic storms on Earth. The level of magnetic storms is classified from G1 (weak) to G5 (extremely strong).
