Timber Industry Asks for Delay in Fines for Lack of GLONASS

The industry is asking the government to introduce a moratorium on fines for drivers transporting timber cargo

Timber industry representatives have encountered problems in complying with the authorities' requirements to equip transport with the GLONASS system. The new rules came into force on January 1, 2025.

Entrepreneurs have appealed to the Ministry of Natural Resources. They are asking to introduce a transition period until mid-April, during which drivers will not be fined for the absence of the system. Market participants believe that less than 40% of vehicles are equipped with the necessary modules.

The problem is that many companies did not manage to conclude contracts with GLONASS before the new rules came into force. At the beginning of February, only 10% of equipment in the forestry industry was equipped with satellite equipment.
