Frequent leaks of Russian companies' databases are affecting the price drop in the shadow segment of the Internet. This was reported to journalists by information security analysts. According to them, more than 60% of stolen data on darknet forums can be obtained free of charge. Experts expect the situation with leaks to worsen, including due to an increase in the number of hackers.
Analysts at F.A.C.C.T – a Russian developer of technologies for combating cybercrime – reported that in 2024, attackers distributed 259 new databases of companies from the Russian Federation on the darknet, compared to 246 in the year before last.
Ashot Oganesyan, founder of DLBI, noted that the amount of freely available data is increasing. This is due to the activities of hackers from Ukraine. According to the specialist, the total volume of leaks exceeds the population of Russia. This year, the number of leaked data increased by 70% compared to 2023.
Positive Technologies reports that the share of free databases in the darknet in the first half of last year was 64%, and in the second half – 60%.
In general, the number of databases distributed on the darknet is growing. Thus, in the second half of the year, we identified 53% more databases than in the first half of 2024.
According to her, the average cost of a database without biometrics and passport data in the first half of the year ranged from $200 to $300.
Analysts believe that the situation will continue to worsen. They predict that new hacking groups will train young specialists, which may lead to even more leaks in the future.
