In the second half of 2025, Sber and NSPK will merge their "face payment" services, creating a unified biometric system. This will simplify customer onboarding through any bank's app and provide access to a wide network of terminals. The Central Bank of the Russian Federation has supported the project.
The unified system will eliminate the fragmentation of Sber's and NSPK's infrastructures, allowing customers of both operators to use compatible technology. Sber plans to upgrade 2 million terminals by 2026. Other banks, such as VTB and Alfa-Bank, are also preparing biometric equipment.
Currently, about 3 million users are registered in the EBS. The technology will enable the implementation of new features, including age verification and contactless check-in at hotels. Experts believe that the launch of bioacquiring will reduce banks' costs and increase the level of comfort for customers.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Russia has started checking train passengers using biometrics.
