Specialists at the Irkutsk Aviation Plant (IAZ) have mastered the operation of a new longitudinal milling machining center for cutting holes in the keel attachment points on the keel beam section (KBS) and keel units of theMS-21 aircraft. The equipment was transferred from the Ulyanovsk branch of PJSC "Il" to save time and resources.
Previously, aircraft manufacturers transported MS-21 keel beam sections from Irkutsk to this Ulyanovsk enterprise for finishing. After training in Ulyanovsk, a team of IAZ specialists eliminated this inefficient element of logistics. According to the factory newspaper "Irkutsk Aircraft Builder," IAZ assemblers-riveters have already independently processed their first KBS for the MS-21. The hole cutting process includes:
- positioning the tool relative to the KBS installed in the tooling using a measuring probe;
- machining the diameter from 30 to 32 mm with a roughing end mill in the first stage;
- bringing the hole diameter to 33.9 mm with two roughing reamers;
- finish reaming of the precision hole.
Rough milling of one hole takes about 50 minutes, while the remaining operations are performed in 30-40 minutes. It takes six working shifts to process one hole.
It is worth noting that IAZ specialists first practiced interacting with the new machine on trial technological samples, and only then proceeded to work with it on MS-21 elements. Nevertheless, the production process of final KBS processing is still being adjusted. Therefore, leading engineers, measurers of aggregate-assembly production for civil aviation technology, and representatives of all IAZ services control it in the early stages.
