State Duma Deputy Amir Khamitov from the "New People" faction proposed introducing an age limit for the use of social networks by children under 14 in order to protect them from dangers on the Internet.
According to him, social networks often become a platform for destructive propaganda, recruitment into sects, and threats from criminals. Khamitov stated that adults are obliged to take measures to form a healthy information space for the younger generation.
The deputy pointed out that an adult is able to filter harmful content and choose reliable sources of information, while children are often deprived of this opportunity. In his opinion, restricting minors' access to social networks will help protect them from "information garbage." They can obtain useful information through educational resources and books.
Khamitov referred to international experience. For example, in Australia, a ban on the use of social networks for children under 16 has been in effect since November 2024. Indonesia is also considering introducing an age threshold for access to social networks. The deputy expressed the opinion that Russia could follow this path, since such measures are justified in the face of modern challenges.
