Ban on using gadgets while driving postponed: amendments to traffic rules will not come into force in March 2025

The Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation has suspended the initiative that could limit the use of smartphones and tablets by drivers

Amendments to the traffic rules (SDA), providing for a ban on the use of devices that distract the driver, such as tablets and smartphones, while driving, will not come into force on March 1, 2025. This was reported by the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport proposed to amend the traffic rules, which would limit the use of gadgets that distract the driver and reduce his attention while driving. The list of such devices included tablets, smartphones, as well as multimedia systems of cars used for watching videos while driving.

Currently, the use of a telephone while driving, if it is not equipped with a device for hands-free conversations (for example, a headset), is subject to a fine of 1.5 thousand rubles.
