Technologies of the Future: SKIF-D Satellite Successfully Conducts Video Communication Session from an Altitude of 8,070 km

Satellite Confirms its Capabilities for Developing National Space Infrastructure

In 2024, the first device of the federal project "Sphere" – the SKIF-D demonstration satellite produced by JSC "RESHETNEV" – was used in video conferencing sessions.

The most significant communication session via SKIF-D was conducted between the antenna field and the parallel design site. It was attended by Mikhail Valov, Deputy General Designer of the Zheleznogorsk enterprise, and a film crew from the Russia 24 TV channel, who were preparing a report for Cosmonautics Day.

The video call involved control ground stations of the command and measurement complex at JSC "RESHETNEV" and the Scientific and Production Center "Small Spacecraft", two cellular base stations, and a secure internet network provided by the provider.

The session confirmed the possibility of high-quality video communication through the SKIF-D experimental space system, operating in a new orbit for Russia – 8,070 km with a polar inclination.

The SKIF-D demonstration satellite was launched on October 22, 2022, as part of the federal project "Comprehensive Development of Space Information Technologies" ("Sphere"). The results of its work are taken into account when designing the regular constellation of the SKIF satellite communication system, designed to provide high-speed internet access in the Russian Federation and neighboring regions.
