The Quadrantids meteor shower will reach its peak activity on the night of January 3-4, 2025. Astronomers predict up to 120 "shooting stars" per hour, which is one to two meteors per minute in clear skies.
The best time to observe will be from 00:00 until dawn, when the radiant of the stream (the area from which the meteors appear to originate) will be high in the sky.
The Quadrantids get their name from the constellation Quadrans Muralis, which is no longer used in modern astronomy. Now the radiant of the stream is located in the area under the handle of the Big Dipper in the constellation Bootes, and you need to look for it above the northeastern horizon. In 2025, the conditions for observation will be ideal, as the Moon will not obscure the sky. This meteor shower can be observed throughout Russia.
