Updated Rules for Transporting Animals on Russian Trains Come into Effect on January 1, 2025

Passengers can now transport small animals without buying out all the seats

New rules for transporting animals on long-distance passenger trains in Russia came into effect on January 1. This was announced by the Federal Passenger Company, part of Russian Railways.

Now, passengers on FPC trains can take small animals in carriers in comfort compartments without having to buy out all the seats. However, the old rules apply to the transport of large dogs: it is necessary to buy out all the seats in the compartment.

A new feature is that a free ticket is now required for large dogs. If a passenger buys out all the seats in the compartment, they can transport up to four large dogs or carriers with animals.

In addition, other passengers will be able to find out in advance whether there will be a pet next to them, as this information is available on the Russian Railways website when buying tickets.
