"Kosmicheskaya Svyaz" intends to provide Russian aircraft with Internet before 2028

Previously, Internet access on board Russian airliners was provided through foreign services

The Russian state satellite communications operator FSUE "Kosmicheskaya Svyaz" intends to provide Wi-Fi on Russian aircraft before 2028.

"Kosmicheskaya Svyaz" is working on solving this problem faster, as they strive to remain among the leaders in the industry. Previously, Internet access on Russian airliners was provided through foreign services using foreign satellites, but now Russia is cut off from these supplies.

We see a great need from the market to provide passengers with the opportunity to use the Internet on board.
Alexey Volin, General Director of "Kosmicheskaya Svyaz"

Earlier, the Minister of Digital Development of the Russian Federation, Maksut Shadaev, stated that Wi-Fi on board passenger aircraft could become widespread in Russia by 2028 thanks to the creation of a group of low-orbit satellites.

"Bureau 1440", which is engaged in the creation of a low-orbit satellite constellation, confirmed that the work is proceeding according to plan. The company is preparing for the mass production of spacecraft and subscriber terminals, including for rail and air transport. The completion of the formation of the satellite constellation and the launch of a commercial service are scheduled for 2027.
