In Russia, animal behavior algorithms in nature were used to solve energy problems

The research results will be applied to the calculation and design of electrical networks

Specialists from Novosibirsk State Technical University have created a program for analyzing and designing electrical networks. It is based on mathematical algorithms that mimic natural processes, such as evolution and the behavior of groups of living beings.

Nikita Sergeev, Assistant at the Department of Electrical Stations of Novosibirsk State Technical University, explained that previously, when developing new electrical networks, established norms and rules were followed.

However, there is currently a trend towards a transition to distributed energy, which complicates the process of optimal design of electrical networks. When designing electrical networks, it is increasingly necessary to take into account the presence of several low-power energy sources and consider various options for the placement of electrical equipment.

For the effective design of electrical networks, the university proposed using methods based on natural processes, such as evolution and the collective behavior of living organisms. These methods include swarm and genetic algorithms.

For example, when birds move in a flock, they try to find the optimal flight path. In the context of finding a balance between the optimal trajectory for each individual and for the flock as a whole, the direction of movement is constantly adjusted.

When searching for a balance between the optimal path for each individual representative and for the group as a whole, the direction of movement is constantly adjusted. This can be expressed mathematically and used to find optimal solutions in various technical tasks.

For example, you can choose the optimal version of the electrical network from a variety of possible ones, evaluating each of them according to the criteria of reliability and economic efficiency. It is for finding such optimal options that artificial intelligence methods are used.

In the process of developing an electrical system, it is necessary to install switches between the energy generator and its recipients. These devices make it possible, in the event of an accident, to automatically disconnect the damaged section of the network and quickly restore its operation after the fault is eliminated.

Novosibirsk State Technical University has created a unique water purification device. The development is based on chitosan — a substance that is obtained from the shells of crustaceans. It is made in the form of a mesh bag with a biogel, resembling a tea bag. Inside there are layers of a carbon filter, alternating with two types of gel.
