The main distinguishing feature of the latest Russian S-500 Prometheus anti-aircraft missile system is the ability to eliminate a wide range of targets in near space. These characteristics confidently neutralize the capabilities of the new generation of weapons of the United States and a number of European NATO countries.
Igor Korotchenko, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine, noted that in addition to solving the problems of strategic missile defense, the S-500 complex allows solving the issue related to the destruction of promising space-based assets of the enemy in near-Earth orbit.
Plus S-500 is a means of neutralizing American military space programs to create a carrier of strike weapons based on a reusable X-37B space shuttle, which the United States plans to deploy in near-Earth orbit in the coming decades.
The expert added that the S-500 is resistant to operation in conditions of electronic countermeasures of the enemy, as well as the latest technologies in the field of high-precision guidance and target selection.
