New Cancer Marker Analysis Created in Moscow

New approach will increase the accuracy of disease diagnosis

A new technology for conducting tests for cancer markers and other diseases has been developed at the Moscow Polytech. This was reported in the press service of the university.

The basis of the new technology is biosensors. These devices determine the presence of various molecules in biological samples.

Such systems are already used in medicine in the form of immunochromatographic test strips, glucometers, and biochips. Traditional systems use monoclonal antibodies to detect specific biomarkers, but they are usually developed to detect one specific indicator and require special laboratory conditions.

The new approach involves the use of recombinant antibodies and antibody-like molecules instead of standard monoclonal antibodies. This may improve the accuracy of diagnosis and make production more economical. The development will also allow adapting systems to the specific characteristics of a particular patient.

Recombinant antibodies are created using genetic engineering methods: the necessary genes are embedded in bacteria or other cells, which begin to produce antibodies. This provides several potential advantages: low cost, high accuracy, and the ability to create antibodies with new properties that are difficult to obtain in the traditional way.

Currently, scientists have already analyzed successful examples of the use of biosensors in medical practice. The next step will be to create prototypes capable of identifying specific biomarkers. The effectiveness of these prototypes will be tested in studies involving both healthy volunteers and patients with various diseases.
