Roskomnadzor targets foreign hosting providers: who is at risk of being blocked

The agency may restrict access for companies that have not complied with security and data protection requirements

Roskomnadzor (RKN) is considering restricting access in Russia to eight foreign hosting providers, including GoDaddy.com LLC, Amazon Web Services Inc. and HostGator.com LLC. This is due to non-compliance with the agency's requirements.

Given the risks associated with resources hosted on the servers of these companies, the operation of these providers may be restricted in Russia

In addition to GoDaddy, Amazon and HostGator, Kamatera Inc., Ionos Inc., Network Solutions LLC, DigitalOcean LLC and Hetzner Online GmbH have also failed to comply with the requirements. If their operations are restricted, they will not be able to provide hosting services to Russian organizations.

Roskomnadzor recommended that website owners switch to platforms of providers included in its register, which as of November 29 includes 474 organizations. It is emphasized that Roskomnadzor cannot guarantee the protection of sites hosted on foreign providers' servers from DDoS attacks and other threats.

Foreign providers may at any time terminate cooperation with the resource owner for political or internal reasons, leaving the site inaccessible to users.
