«Peklo» cruise missiles: how Russia can defend itself against a new threat with a range of 700 km

It is necessary to place the «Buk-M3» illumination radars on 22 m high towers

Small-sized tactical cruise missiles «Peklo» with a range of 700 km may appear at the front in the near future. Military expert Evgeny Damantsev spoke about how to defend against this threat.

He drew attention to the large tolerances in the production of critical airframe components, including radio-transparent panels of antenna modules of GPS-correction and other elements of airborne electronic equipment.

The effective scattering area of the missile is about 0.2 m², which allows it to be detected by the onboard PFAR radars N035 «Irbis-E» at a distance of about 130 km against the background of the earth's surface.

9S36M illumination radars of the «Buk-M3» complexes are capable of detecting «Peklo» missiles at a distance of up to 35 km in a low-altitude flight profile at an altitude of 50 - 35 m, provided that the 9S36M radar is placed on a 22 m high elbow tower.
