New Method for Diagnosing Power Plant Failures Created in Samara

The method allows detecting the failure of the station's rotor rod at an early stage

A new mathematical method for detecting rotor rod failures, a common cause of power plant failures, has been developed at Samara State Technical University (SamSTU). This was reported by the university's press service.

The technology allows detecting malfunctions in the unit at an early stage with high accuracy — up to 97%.

The methodology does not require significant financial costs.

According to Dmitry Bannov, Candidate of Technical Sciences and Senior Lecturer at the Department of "Power Plants", modern diagnostic methods are mainly based on monitoring bearing vibration, metal temperature, and acoustic emission control. However, they often require the installation of expensive sensors and the use of specialized tools. This increases the cost of diagnostics.

The new method may become a more affordable and effective solution for early detection of problems in the operation of power plants.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the largest solar power plant in Russia will be built in Dagestan.
