From March 1, 2025, new rules for car registration will come into force in Russia. The State traffic inspectorate will no longer check the availability of an OSAGO policy.
When registering a car, the payment of the recycling fee will be checked. If the car was brought into the country by a private individual, it cannot be sold within a year. Otherwise, the owner will be obliged to pay the recycling fee in full.
From March 1, 2025, it is also proposed to launch an experiment to check the availability of policies using photo and video recording cameras on the roads. But the implementation of the initiative is still in question.
It is worth noting that the recycling fee rate has increased by 70–85% since October 2024. Now it will be indexed every year.
