Russian air defense systems, the S-400 surface-to-air missile system and the Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and gun system, destroyed five American-made ATACMS operational-tactical missiles. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.
As a result of the anti-missile battle, combat crews of the S-400 SAM system and the Pantsir SAM/SPAAD system shot down five missiles, and one was damaged.
Military expert Evgeny Damantsev clarified that the S-400 intercepted at least four ATACMS missiles on the descending branches of trajectories at altitudes of about 15 km, and the Pantsir-S1 SAM/SPAAD system hit one of the ATACMS at altitudes of less than 7 - 5 km before entering the "dead zone" of the S-400.
ATACMS is an operational-tactical ballistic missile developed by the American company Lockheed Martin. It can be launched from various multiple launch rocket systems, including the M142 HIMARS.
