The Russian government has identified a list of regions where cryptocurrency mining may be temporarily banned from December 1, 2024. Currency mining will not be allowed in some districts and cities of Buryatia, Irkutsk region and Trans-Baikal Territory.
The restriction will be in effect until March 15, 2025. Then the ban will be introduced only for the winter season - from November 15 to March 15, it will last until 2031.
It is proposed to completely ban mining from December 1, 2024 to March 15, 2031 in Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, Ingushetia, North Ossetia, Chechnya, Dagestan, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, Lugansk and Donetsk People's Republics.
The main goal of the bans is to combat large cryptocurrency miners who "exacerbate local energy shortages." It is assumed that miners will begin to move to regions with a surplus of energy capacity.
