Russian military forces have begun using new rockets for the TOS-1A heavy flamethrower system "Solntsepyok." Journalist Alexander Kots noted that the characteristics of the advanced ammunition are not yet publicly available.
But this, firstly, is a significantly increased range. And this is very important in conditions where the "Solntsepyok" has to be driven 3-4 km to the line of combat contact for a strike. With the new shells, the vehicle and crew are not taking such a big risk.
The journalist emphasized that they use a "slightly different principle" that allows covering a significantly larger area with one munition.
Main characteristics of the basic version of TOS-1 "Solntsepyok":
- Readiness time for opening fire — 90 sec
- Number of launch tubes — 24 pcs
- Caliber — 220 mm
- Firing range — from 600 m to 6000 m
- Duration of a full salvo — 6 sec
Earlier www1.ru reported that "Product 305" has been modernized. Now the rocket flies a distance of more than 20 km.
