RKN points to violations related to the use of the messenger for terrorist and extremist purposes

Roskomnadzor (RKN) still sees no grounds for unblocking the Discord messenger in Russia. The press service of the department told TASS that access to the messenger remains limited due to violations of the requirements of Russian legislation regarding organizers of information dissemination. These requirements are aimed at preventing the use of the messenger for terrorist and extremist purposes, as well as preventing the recruitment of citizens and the sale of drugs, given the placement of illegal information.

The RKN emphasized that there are currently no grounds for unblocking Discord.

The media reported that Discord allegedly removed all illegal materials at the request of Roskomnadzor, since all links to prohibited content disappeared from the registry. The department noted that to search for materials in the Unified Register of Prohibited Information, it is necessary to enter specific links (addresses) of pages with violations, and not the domain name of the entire service.

The Discord platform was blocked in Russia on October 8 for violating legislation. It was created in 2015 and was originally conceived as a platform for gamers. In March 2024, Roskomnadzor added Discord to the register of social networks.
