Moscow court fines Discord 3.5 million rubles

Roskomnadzor revealed facts of the platform's inaction in response to the placement of illegal content

The Tagansky Court of Moscow has imposed a fine of 3.5 million rubles on the Discord messenger for two violations related to the promotion of non-traditional sexual relations. This is stated in the case materials.

According to Roskomnadzor, during the monitoring of the platform on July 8 and 11, 2024, facts were revealed of the Discord owner's lack of response to the placement of illegal information that promotes non-traditional sexual relations and gender reassignment. This information was posted on June 29, 2024, but was not blocked, despite the platform's self-control obligations.

Since February 2021, Russia has had a law on self-regulation of social networks, which requires platforms to independently identify and block prohibited content.
