JSC GLONASS has presented a prototype of Russia's first wearable mobile satellite communication terminal. The small-sized device will provide personal communication anywhere in Russia, according to the developer's press service.
The terminal has successfully passed testing.
The mobile terminal is already capable of providing personal satellite communication anywhere in Russia by utilizing the resources of existing domestic satellites in geostationary orbit. Before the launch of Russian low-orbit satellite constellations, the solution provides high-quality import substitution for products from foreign providers who have left the Russian Federation market.
A key feature of the new development is its compactness and light weight. The device measures 24 cm in width and height, with a depth of 5 cm, and weighs less than 1.5 kg. These parameters make the terminal convenient to carry and use in various conditions.
This is Russia's first personal satellite communication solution for mobile objects, designed for real-time voice and data transmission. The terminal provides two-way voice communication, WiFi connectivity for smartphones and IoT devices, internet for messengers, mail, and exchange of service information, and transmission of emergency messages in areas without cellular coverage.
The ultra-small antenna technology allows the terminal to quickly lock onto a satellite without the need for complex equipment setup, unlike traditional counterparts. This ensures stable real-time voice and data transmission.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that GLONASS will create a system for preventing traffic accidents.
