Tomsk Polytechnic University (TPU) has created super-hard materials based on titanium dioxide, the university's press service reported.
The electric arc method was used to develop super-pure titanium diboride. It is characterized by high purity and does not require additional actions to remove impurities.
The peculiarity of obtaining titanium diboride by the electric arc method lies in the absence of a protective atmosphere and the need for vacuum equipment to implement the synthesis. Compared to the methods used today, our technique allows us to obtain pure titanium diboride powder in one synthesis cycle.
The composition of the material includes metallic titanium and amorphous boron. It can be used for the manufacture of neutron-absorbing parts of nuclear reactors and aluminum electrolyzers.
Earlier, www1.ru reported that Perm scientists found the optimal processing mode for aircraft alloys.
