A universal method for predicting oil viscosity developed in Kazan

The new technology will solve many problems in the energy sector

The Institute of Physics of Kazan Federal University (KFU) has presented a new universal method for calculating the viscosity of crude oil. The accuracy of the method exceeds similar ones.

Scientists have developed a technology based on the concept of temperature scaling. It involves the introduction of a special temperature scale, different from the usual Celsius or Kelvin.

In this scale, the key temperatures (melting and glass transition points) take the same values for all systems. This makes it possible to make the temperature a dimensionless quantity and greatly simplifies the mathematical modeling of viscosity.

The new method was tested on oil samples from various regions of the world (Russia, China, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria, Kuwait and the North Sea). The results showed high accuracy and versatility of the approach. It is expected that further research and implementation of the method will help solve a number of problems in the energy sector.
