The Ministry of Health is ready to introduce automatic consent of Russians to the transfer of medical data to AI

The Council for the Development of the Digital Economy under the Federation Council has recommended that the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation introduce automatic consent of patients to transfer their encrypted medical data to companies that develop artificial intelligence (AI) technologies.

The Ministry is proposed to create a mechanism by which the transfer of this information would be automatic after Russians seek medical help. This may include X-rays, MRI, CT scans.

The press service of the Ministry of Health confirmed that the recommendations of the council are related to the AI development strategy in Russia, which was approved by President Vladimir Putin. The department added that neural networks need sets of anonymized medical data for training. This would help optimize resources and improve the quality of services provided.

Experts' opinions on the issue of transferring anonymized data are divided. Some believe that this will help the development of AI in medicine. Others are sure that the use of patient data violates their constitutional rights.
