"Father of All Bombs": Bulgarian Military Suggests Russia Might Use ODAB-9000

The Russian ODAB-9000 aerial bomb is one of the most powerful non-nuclear munitions in the world

Russia, to intimidate its adversaries, could use the ODAB-9000 aerial fuel-air explosive bomb, which is one of the most powerful non-nuclear munitions in the world (bomb weight is 7100 kg, power equivalent to 44 tons of TNT), writes Bulgarian Military.

The ODAB-9000 contains a thermobaric explosive substance that is particularly destructive due to its detonation in the air, which creates a high-pressure blast wave and a prolonged burning effect.

The bomb was presented to the public in 2007. The ODAB-9000 is Russia's response to the American Massive Ordnance Air Blast (MOAB) bomb, often called the "mother of all bombs."

The Tu-22M3, Tu-95MS, and Tu-160 can serve as delivery vehicles for such bombs. However, the ODAB-9000 could be delivered by the RS-28 Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles (also known as Satan II).

Presumably, the "Sarmat" was originally designed with the ability to deliver larger warheads to hit targets. It is possible that the missile was tested with various payloads.
