The Russian Aerospace Forces have begun using the FAB-3000 M-54 gliding high-explosive aerial bomb, nicknamed the "Tsar Bomb." The munition has enormous "destructive potential" for enemy targets due to its large kill radius, Business Insider writes.
The destructive power of the FAB-3000 M-54 is such that even munitions that do not hit specific targets can be deadly due to the larger kill radius. The fact that it is a gliding bomb and can be dropped outside the range of enemy air defenses makes the munition even more dangerous.
Business Insider writes that the FAB-3000 M-54 is a conventional "dumb" bomb that can be converted into a gliding munition using a unified gliding and correction module (UMPC). According to the publication, mass production of such aerial bombs began in Russia in March.
Now, the Russian Aerospace Forces have begun to rely on guided and unguided gliding bombs to hit targets on enemy territory. The aircraft drops the FAB at a great distance from the target, after which the bomb continues to glide to the specified point, and the aircraft that launched it is safe. This is their peculiarity, Business Insider writes.
