This was reported in an interview with Vedomosti by First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov.
You know that, unfortunately, our flagship project, the MC-21, which should compete with the medium-range Boeing and Airbus, has been plagued by sanctions since 2014. First, the Americans refused to supply composites for the wing, and in 2022, a whole pool of foreign suppliers stopped working with the United Aircraft Corporation, which necessitated the replacement of 36 aircraft systems. I don’t know of a single country in the world that independently produces the entire range.
According to him, this requires searching for constructive solutions for domestic import-substituting systems.
In the process of implementing plans to create Russian analogues of our aircraft systems and avionics, adaptation of the design itself is also required. A good option would be to additionally make a version of the aircraft fuselage shortened by one section. This will allow airlines to operate the aircraft more efficiently, taking into account the resulting weight characteristics, while maintaining the original flight range parameters with a load of 140–150 people.
