Portuguese Air Force aircraft monitored the passage of four ships flying the Russian flag through Portugal's exclusive economic zone. These are a submarine, auxiliary and training ships, and a tanker, Defence blog writes.
The observation mission lasted more than three hours. The pilots observed the small sea tanker "Vice-Admiral Paromov", the submarine "Novorossiysk" (project 636.3 "Varshavyanka", carrying "Kalibr" missiles) and the auxiliary vessel "Evgeny Churov". In addition, the training ship "Kruzenshtern" was discovered.
According to Defence blog, in 2024, the Portuguese Air Force spent over 60 hours observing foreign ships. Moreover, 3 out of 17 observation missions were conducted this week.
This emphasizes the need for constant monitoring of the movements of naval forces in European waters, especially in the context of the continuing high tension between NATO countries and Russia.
