Politico has learned that French law enforcement issued an arrest warrant for brothers Pavel and Nikolai Durov on March 25, 2024. Currently, Telegram founder Pavel Durov is under arrest in France.
The investigation against the Durovs is related to a case of sexual abuse of children. An unnamed man used Telegram to involve minors in the creation of child pornography. Journalists claim that Telegram did not respond to a court request and did not provide data on this user. It was after this that law enforcement issued an arrest warrant for the Durovs.
It should be noted that Telegram cooperates with law enforcement agencies around the world, providing information at the request of the police. This includes IP addresses, phone numbers, and data on where the user is registered. The only exception is personal correspondence. This is according to industry experts.
As a reminder, Durov's detention (96 hours) expires today. According to French media, he was taken to court, and the judge must decide whether to continue the investigation against him or not.
