The "Atom" electric car, developed by the company "Kama", has an unusual body from a structural point of view. Most cars have a central pillar between the front and rear doors, which provides the necessary rigidity. constructions. The "Atom" does not have such a pillar.
The role of the central pillar in the car is played by both doors: front and rear, when closed. Door locks are located in the sills, because the car does not have a central pillar. Also, for the reliability of the structure, the door leaves are locked to each other.
The door opening process is implemented in a somewhat unusual way. To get into the cabin, you need to have a special smart card (tag), or synchronize your smartphone with the car via Bluetooth. As soon as the "electric car" sees either the phone or the tag, the locks automatically open.
The front door has a retractable handle. You can't just open the back door. The front one gets in the way. Therefore, to access the rear of the car, you need to press a button. After that, the front door will open slightly – there are closers, and the rear door will automatically open in four seconds.
If a person is in the car and sitting in the back, then he just needs to press a button on the door panel. After that, the electric drive will automatically open the rear door, apparently slightly opening the front one before that.
The company "Kama" assures that automatic door opening is safe for others. The fact is that sensors and cameras scan the space for obstacles. If something interferes with the opening or closing of the doors, a sound signal will sound and the process will be stopped.
What about safety? How will the car react to a side impact without a central pillar? The developers assure that the main load during a side impact will fall on the sills. It is in them that the reinforced body of the traction battery is integrated. There are also stiffeners in the doors. They are made of hot-stamped steel.
