North Korean leader Kim Jong-un took part in the testing of a new strike drone with X-shaped wings, which is similar in design to the Russian Lancet kamikaze drone. During the tests, which were observed by top military commanders and party functionaries, the UAV hit an object that simulated a South Korean K-2 tank. Photos of the tests were published by the state agency CTAC.
Kim Jong-un was pleased with the tactical and technical characteristics of the new drones. He called for increased testing intensity. The People's Army will be equipped with such kamikaze drones, the North Korean leader added.
Kim Jong-un also said that it is necessary to establish the production of nuclear torpedoes and introduce artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in the defense sector.
The tests were conducted by the UAV Research Institute of the Academy of National Defense of the DPRK. They took place against the background of the US and South Korean Ulchi Freedom Shield military exercises.
Lancet is a strike kamikaze drone, also known as a loitering munition, developed by the Russian company ZALA Aero (part of the Kalashnikov concern). Alexander Zakharov is called the creator of one of the most famous UAVs in Russia.
