Russian military could use a six-barreled 23-mm automatic aircraft gun GSh-6-23M to combat drones. But for this, it must be installed on a ground mobile installation, said military expert Yevgeny Damantsev.
Why not develop a self-propelled version of the Gatling gun system to counter UAVs. The domestic version is the 23-mm 6-barreled GSh-6-23M (AO-19), designed by specialists from the Tula KBP under the leadership of Vasily Gryazev and Arkady Shipunov. These guns were placed on the Su-24M and MiG-31B, and can also be placed on a self-propelled ground platform.
Damantsev noted that their rate of fire is 10,000 rounds per minute, providing a much higher density of fire and the probability of hitting enemy UAVs.
Characteristics of the GSh-6-23M gun:
- Cartridge type — AM-23
- Caliber — 23 mm
- Rate of fire — 10000 rds/min
- Initial projectile velocity — 715 m/s
- Weapon weight — 73 kg
