By 2040, Russia will have a domestic strategic nuclear submarine (SSBN) of the fifth generation. This timeframe was indicated by the Director General of the Rubin Central Design Bureau, Igor Vilnit.

The need for new ships will arise around 2040, which is just over 15 years from now.
