PJSC "Il" is beginning active steps to create a new transport aircraft from the Il-76 family. Rosaviatsiya has already issued the type certificate necessary for this for modifications of the Il-76TD-90 and Il-76TD-90VD aircraft. According to UAC, this documentation plus improved characteristics will make it possible to operate the new aircraft both in Russia and on all air routes of any international airports when it is exported.
In addition, obtaining a certificate will help to perform and record subsequent changes to the aircraft design in the documentation.
This is an important step in creating a new Il-76TD-90A commercial transport aircraft for Russian and foreign customers, which is a transport modification of the Il-76MD-90A aircraft currently being produced. Currently, commercial carriers around the world operate more than 100 Il-76TD aircraft and its modifications, built back in Tashkent, the resource of which is coming to an end.
The new Il-76TD-90A will feature improved flight performance, modern avionics and a reduced minimum crew of up to three people. All these advantages will make the machine absolutely unique in the market of heavy ramp transport aircraft and economically efficient.
"Il" has already begun negotiations with future operators of the Il-76TD-90A both in Russia and abroad. According to the Managing Director of PJSC "Il", Daniil Brenerman, the new model of heavy transport aircraft is already "of great interest to airlines, primarily those whose fleet currently includes the famous Ilyushin family of aircraft". The potential order portfolio, as Brenerman noted, already exceeds 100 aircraft, and deliveries of the new Il-76TD-90A are scheduled to begin in 2028.
The Il-76MD-90A is a deeply modernized domestic version of the Il-76MD, which lifts more than 60 tons of payload. The aircraft is designed to transport paratroopers, military equipment and heavy cargo, and, if necessary, is converted to transport the wounded and sick in an emergency. It has a modern domestic flight control system with autopilot, weather radar and other necessary settings.
In 2023, the Rostec State Corporation brought the modernized Il-76MD-90A (E) to the Dubai Airshow International Aviation and Space Exhibition in the UAE. The military transport heavy aircraft became the first example of such equipment since 1994, which Russia brought to a foreign exhibition. At the end of 2023, it became known that Russia intends to increase production of the Il-76MD-90A fourfold.
