Artificial intelligence (AI) implemented in Russian armored vehicles has expanded their capabilities and allowed them to be used in unmanned mode, said Vasily Yelistratov, Head of the Department for the Development of Artificial Intelligence Technologies of the Russian Ministry of Defense. He spoke about this at the Army-2024 forum.
According to him, the enemy uses unmanned boats. Since AI technologies are used for their operation, only intelligent systems can resist such weapons. Yelistratov added that AI processes large amounts of information in a short time and helps military personnel make decisions.
The representative of the Ministry of Defense emphasized that Russia is ahead of the West in the introduction of AI in some areas. Unfriendly countries failed to isolate the Russian Federation with sanctions, as well as influence its technological development.
Many samples of armored weapons that are being restored return after repair with AI elements.
What AI elements does the equipment receive:
- remotely controlled fire modules
- automatic target tracking
- movement support systems
Modernized models of military equipment demonstrate «completely different results», they are much higher than the basic ones, Yelistratov summarized.
