Insiders reported that AvtoVAZ is negotiating with Haval about the supply of engines for a crossover based on LADA Vesta. Representatives of the Russian auto giant spoke on this topic.
"These are strange rumors that we do not comment on"
According to insiders, VAZ initially tried to negotiate with Chery, but then turned its attention to Haval, which AvtoVAZ head Maxim Sokolov recently praised. The fact is that the engine production is localized at a plant near Tula. It is claimed that the engine will be installed on a crossover based on Vesta, the development of which AvtoVAZ is actively pursuing.
I interviewed three sources at VAZ and Haval. They confirm the fact that VAZ is interested in Haval engines, although without wanting to talk about it.
Note that there is nothing unusual about installing Chinese parts in LADA cars. It became known earlier that ten LADA Vestas with mechanics from an "eastern partner"were assembled at the plant in Togliatti. Perhaps, soon a localized Chinese engine will be offered to the Chinese mechanics as a pair.
