Representatives of AvtoVAZ announced when the "Niva" cars of the brand will roll off the assembly line with airbags. This will happen in the fourth quarter of 2024.
The Niva Legend will have one airbag, only for the driver, while the LADA Niva Travel will be equipped with two – for the driver and the front passenger.
The head of AvtoVAZ, Maxim Sokolov, previously stated that many tests had to be carried out to equip the classic "Niva" with an airbag. This improvement to the car was made so that the "Era-GLONASS" system could work in the event of an accident.
The problem with airbags in LADA arose in November last year due to Western sanctions. After that time, there were interruptions in the supply of such parts for LADA Granta and Vesta, as well as for LADA Niva Travel and LADA Niva Legend.
