The installation of the CPCS was carried out in the reactor building of the first power unit

Specialists from Rosatom State Corporation have completed the installation of the Containment Prestressing System (CPCS) in the reactor building of the first unit of the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Turkey (Mersin Province). This involves a sealed enclosure that reliably isolates the protective shell of the reactor building from the external environment, the nuclear facility's press service reported.

The concrete structure of the reactor building has become stronger due to the use of bundles of steel cables.

The shell withstands an internal pressure of 5 kg/cm2, external impact from a shock wave creating a pressure of 30 kPa, and a falling large airliner.

According to Sergey Butskikh, Director of the Akkuyu NPP under construction, the CPCS will increase the safety, stability, and technological efficiency of the reactor building. Specialists are now starting to conduct acceptance tests of all structural elements.

What the CPCS consists of:

  • Support cups and duct formers are mounted in the inner protective shell, into which reinforcing cables filled with cement mortar are integrated.
  • 128 bundles of reinforcing cables (68 horizontally and 60 vertically) are stretched across the entire structure.
