Russian fighters of the Su-30 family will become much faster and more maneuverable in the air after the engines are replaced. According to @RussianArms, the aircraft will be equipped with AL-41-F1S turbofan afterburning engines.
Thanks to the upgrade, the Su-30SM2 will have a higher pitch rate, and will also boast more stable and sustained maneuvering on verticals in close air combat with a much lower rate of speed loss than with the previous AL-31FP engines.
The rate of climb of the aircraft will also increase to 260 - 265 m/s and will be only slightly inferior to the rate of climb of the Su-35S (280 m/s), which is due to the larger midsection due to the larger volume of the two-seat cockpit of the Su-30SM/1/2.
The maximum flight speed near the ground can increase to 1375 km/h, at altitude - up to 2230 km/h. The practical ceiling can increase from 17300 to 18500 m.
In addition, the Su-30SM2 fighters are undergoing a program to modernize the weapons control system. It involves re-equipping from the onboard PFAR radars N011M "Bars-R" to N035 "Irbis-E" radar stations, equipped with more powerful microwave magnetrons. They provide a peak pulse power of 20 kW and a continuous illumination power of 2 kW (for "Bars-R" - 4.5 and 1 kW, respectively).
In addition, the N035 "Irbis-E" is adapted for the use of R-37M long-range air-to-air missiles. The first operational Su-30SM2s are already on combat duty and are intercepting enemy aircraft and low-altitude cruise missiles with R-37M air-to-air missiles.
Thus, thanks to the upgrade, the Su-30SM2 crews will be able to more effectively solve the most complex range of tasks to gain air superiority, overcome enemy air and missile defense forces, and deliver high-precision strikes against strategically important rear targets.
Earlier it became known that Russiacreated the newest cruise missile called "product 720". It embodies the best domestic design ideas.
