Admiral Pepelyaev: Russian Navy aircraft carriers should not have strike weapons on board

A modern Russian aircraft carrier does not need strike weapons on board, according to former Deputy Chief of the Main Staff of the Russian Navy, retired Vice Admiral Vladimir Pepelyaev. According to him, it is necessary to forget the legacy of Soviet specialists, since only aircraft are relevant at present.

Today, strike missile weapons for a ship like an aircraft carrier are not relevant. It must solve aviation tasks, the crew must be focused on the aviation component.

According to Pepelyaev, for a successful defense it is necessary to strengthen not strike weapons, but the aviation wing. He also believes that to neutralize naval and air drones, aircraft carriers need to install Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and gun systems, which are excellent at performing this task.

Earlier www1.ru reported that the High-Precision Systems holding (part of Rostec) expressed its readiness to increase supplies of Pantsirs to the Armed Forces in 2024.
