Admiral Pepelyaev: Russian Navy aircraft carriers should not have strike weapons on board

A modern Russian aircraft carrier does not need strike weapons on board, according to former Deputy Chief of the Main Staff of the Russian Navy, retired Vice Admiral Vladimir Pepelyaev. According to him, it is necessary to forget the legacy of Soviet specialists, since only aircraft are relevant at present.

Today, strike missile weapons are not relevant for a ship like an aircraft carrier. It must solve aviation tasks, the crew must be focused on the aviation component.

According to Pepelyaev, for successful defense, it is necessary to strengthen not strike weapons, but the air wing. He also believes that to neutralize naval and air drones, aircraft carriers need to be equipped with Pantsir anti-aircraft missile and gun systems, which perfectly cope with this task.

Earlier, www1.ru reported that the High-Precision Systems holding (part of Rostec) expressed its readiness to increase deliveries of Pantsirs to the Armed Forces in 2024.
