Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law expanding the powers of Roskomnadzor regarding the blocking of pirate resources. The document was published on the portal of legal acts on June 22, 2024.
The agency is allowed to block pirate sites within two days without prior verification by the Ministry of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media of the Russian Federation (Mintsifra).
The law also implies a ban on issuing information about "mirrors" in all search engines, including foreign ones. The document comes into force from the date of official publication. The exception is the law "On Information, Information Technologies and Information Protection", it will start working from October 1, 2024.
It is worth noting that previously information about a pirate site was sent to Mintsifra. The check took one day and made it possible to make a decision on recognizing the site as a copy of an already blocked one. The verdict was sent to the resource owner and Roskomnadzor.
