Russia Surpasses EU in Robotization: 19% of Manufacturing Enterprises Use Robots

St. Petersburg Becomes Leader in Russia in Terms of the Number of Robots Used in Manufacturing

In 2023, St. Petersburg topped the list of the top 10 regions in Russia in terms of the number of robots used in enterprises. In total, 12.8 thousand robots were used in this sector, which is confirmed by the results of a study by the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge of the Higher School of Economics.

In the Northern capital, 1.3 thousand robots are employed in the manufacturing industry. Many of them are involved in 3 automobile plants. The Samara region is in second place, the Moscow region is in third place, and Tatarstan is in fourth place. The top five is closed by the Kaluga region.

According to Rosstat, in 2022, 19% of manufacturing enterprises used industrial robots and automated lines. This is comparable to the average level in the EU (16.3%). The study specifies that Russia also surpassed Italy (15.8%) and Germany (14.7%) in this indicator.

In the countries of the European Union, industrial robots are actively used in mechanical engineering, metal production and metal products. In Russia, robots are common in automotive, food production, pharmaceuticals, textiles, and wood processing.
